Anandiben Patel takes the call, says won't contest Gujarat polls

Gandhinagar, Oct 9: Ahead of the most anticipated state assembly election of Gujarat, senior BJP leader, and former Chief Minister Anandiben Patel announced her retirement from electoral politics. In an emotional letter, the senior Gujarat BJP leader has urged party Supremo Amit Shah to consider another candidate for the upcoming assembly elections.

Taking a high moral ground, Patel mentioned that she has taken the call by following the policy of BJP where one has to resign after crossing the age limit of 75 years. The former chief minister also thanked party organization for her glorious political journey of 31 years. Patel joined BJP in 1987 and became a legislator in the late 1990s.

After the historic general election of 2014, she became the first woman chief minister of Gujarat. Patel who represents the Ghatlodiya assembly segment has been an MLA for almost twenty years.
