EC officials to review the preparedness for assembly polls in Gujarat

Ahmedabad, October 9: To review the preparedness for the assembly polls in Gujarat which will be held within two months, the election commission team led by Chief Election Commissioner AK Joti will be on a two-day visit to Gujarat from Monday.

 

The state government stated that the officers of the panel conducting assembly polls will be meeting the recognized political party’s representatives in Ahmedabad on Monday. To review different aspects of election management, the panel will hold a meeting with all District Election Officers and senior police officers at Gandhinagar.


To create awareness about VVPATs, a mobile EVM-VVPAT Demonstration Centre will be flagged off by the poll officials, which will visit all assembly areas of Gandhinagar. The meeting between the delegation and the nodal officers will be held on Tuesday to discuss the issues related to the election expenditure management as well as the law and order scenario. The law and order scenario will be assessed by the state Chief Secretary, Additional Chief Secretary (HOME) and the Director General of Police for which the panel will hold the meeting.

The Chief Electoral Officer and Principal Secretary of Gujarat, B. B. Swain, addressed the press conference in Gandhinagar on 29th September where he announced that the Voter Verifiable Paper Audit Trail (VVPAT) will be used along with Electronic Voting Machine (EVM) in the coming Gujarat Assembly elections. Gujarat will be the second state after Goa to be equipped with VVPAT and Electronic Voting Machine. Around 70,182 VVPATs are required for Gujarat polls covering all the 50,128 polling booths.
