Russia warns to ban US media within its territory

Moscow, October 9: Another setback struck US-Russia relation as Russia keeps warning it may impose restrictions on American media. This warning may be viewed as a counter step to U.S. scrutiny over Russian state-funded outlet RT. RT is accused of meddling in internal politics of US by some of Washington.

“We have never used Russian law in relation to foreign correspondents as a lever of pressure, or censorship, or some kind of political influence, never,” Russian foreign ministry spokeswoman, Maria Zakharova said. Then she said, “but this is a particular case.”

As per Russian law if a foreign country targets a Russian media outlet then Russia can impose proportionate restrictions on media outlets from that country operating inside Russia. Hence now Russia is taking help of this law.

“Correspondingly, everything that Russian journalists and the RT station are subject to on U.S. soil after we qualified it as restriction of their activities, we can apply similar measures to American journalists, American media here, on Russian territory,” Zakharova said.
