India and DRC shake their hands to make bilateral trade stronger

New Delhi, November 10: External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj met Vice Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) Leonard She Okitundu and discussed ways to strengthen bilateral ties.

 

Raveesh Kumar spokesperson of External Affairs Ministry said “They discussed issues of trade and investment, development efforts in DRC under Lines of Credit and capacity building and collaboration in regional and multilateral platforms.”

Vice PM and Foreign Minister DRC handed over a letter to Minister of External Affairs Sushma Swaraj from DRC President Joseph Kabila Kabange addressed to Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

 

Bilateral trade between the DRC and India totaled US$ 415.39 million in 2015-16. The major commodities imported by India from the DRC are mineral fuel, mineral oils, copper, natural or cultured pearls, precious or semi-precious stones, oil seeds and olea, and miscellaneous grains. The major commodities India exports to the DRC are pharmaceutical products, vehicles, electrical machinery and equipment, nuclear reactors and boilers, and iron and steel products. India also offered to help Congo develop its mining industry in 2015.
