US airstrike against al-Shabaab in Somalia kills 'several militants'

Mogadishu, November 10: Somalia’s most dangerous Islamic militant Al-Shabaab group again went under a US military strike. Later US military announced it had killed "several militants" in the mentioned airstrike against Al-Shabaab jihadists. US forces conducted the strike in coordination with the Federal Government of Somalia.

“Al-Shabaab has pledged allegiance to al-Qaeda and is dedicated to providing a safe haven for terrorist attacks throughout the world. Al-Shabaab has publicly committed to planning and conducting attacks against the U.S. and our partners in the region.” US military said.

US administration has been constantly targeting the group which has become the deadliest Islamic extremist group in the region. In APEC summit also, Donald Trump called for stopping radical Islamic terrorism.

Somalia has recently gone through very deadly attacks. A massive truck bombing in Mogadishu killed more than 350 people in the country's worst-ever attack. The militant group al-Shabab was blamed for this attack.

Meanwhile, a recently published report has come up with an alarming data. The report says a militant faction loyal to Islamic State (IS) has increased its following in northern Somalia from a few dozen last year to up to 200 this year.
