Islamabad, November 11: Months after India's request to grant visa to Kulbhushan Jadhav's mother to meet him, Pakistan on Friday said that it would allow the convicted Indian prisoner to meet his wife.

“The Government of Pakistan has decided to arrange a meeting of Commander Kulbhushan Jhadav with his wife, in Pakistan, purely on humanitarian grounds,” Pakistan Foreign Office spokesperson Mohammad Faisal said.

He father said, a Note Verbale to this effect has been sent to the Indian High Commission in Islamabad on Friday. Pakistan has said that the meeting will be allowed within its territory.

After Pakistani Military tribunal sentenced him to death on false charges of espionage and terrorism, India approached the International Court of Justice in May and secured a stay. A mercy petition was filed by Jadhav before Pakistan Army chief General on June 22.

India has been trying to arrange a meeting of Jadhav with his family but Pakistan had not accepted visa applications so far. India has moved to have consular access to Jadhav as per UN conventions more than 15 times, but Pakistan had rejected all such proposals.

Pakistan falsely claimed its security forces arrested Jadhav from Balochistan on March 3 last year. However, the truth is that he was abducted from Iran where he had gone on a business trip.

“Kalbushan Jhadev alias, Hussain Mubarak Patel, a serving Commander of the Indian Navy, working with Indian Intelligence Agency/RAW was apprehended by Pakistan law enforcement agencies on March 3, 2016 after he illegally crossed over into Pakistan. He confessed before a Magistrate and the Court that he was tasked by RAW to plan, coordinate and organize espionage, terrorist and sabotage activities aimed at destabilizing and waging war against Pakistan,” Pakistan claims.

India has clarified that Kulbhushan Jadhav is a kidnapped retired officer of the Indian navy in Pakistani custody. India will consider it as a premeditated murder if Pakistan kills him. He also said that Pak has no evidence against him.
