NGT directed Delhi govt and four northern states to take strict measures against pollution

New Delhi, November 11: To control the pollution the National Green Tribunal has directed the Delhi government and the states of Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan to take strict measures to deal with this serious biennial threat. As these four states contribute to increasing environmental pollution levels by burning the crop residue.

 

An advisory has been issued to the state governments by the Agriculture Ministry so that the awareness should be created about the harmful effect of straw burning among the farmers.

The farmers will be facilitated with the residue management machines and equipment such as Zero Till Seed Drill, Happy Seeder, Straw Baler, Rotavator, Paddy Straw Chopper/ Mulcher, Gyro Rake, Straw Reaper, Shredder, etc., to through Custom Hiring Centres or village level Farm Machinery Banks.

Also, the State Governments have also been directed that Rs.4000 per hectare will be used from the funds available for demonstration of machines under Sub-Mission on Agricultural Mechanization for the demonstration of straw management machinery at farmers’ fields.

Under Sub-Mission on Agriculture Mechanization, the Department of Agriculture Cooperation and Farmers Welfare have allocated funds to the four states for crop residue management.
