International Lavi fair in Himachal Pradesh kicked off; aims to boost trading of traditional crafts

Shimla, November 12: Himachal Pradesh is well known across the country and whole world for its rich culture, customs and traditions. Also, Himachalis celebrate all religious and traditional festivals with a great enthusiasm. Notably, the four-day long 'International Lavi fair' was inaugurated by Himachal Pradesh Governor Acharya Dev Vrat on Saturday which will boost promotion and sale of woolens, dry fruits and other traditional crafts and products.

 

On this occasion, Himachal Pradesh Governor Acharya Dev Vrat said that every effort should be made to preserve cultural heritage and restore the old glory of traditional fairs and festivals. He further said that the International Lavi fair provides a good opportunity for their promotion and sale of woolens, dry fruits and other traditional crafts and products.

The Governor also inaugurated the ‘Kinnauri market’ and an exhibition put up by various Government departments and other organizations on the occasion and evinced keen interest in the exhibits. Governor Acharya Dev Vrat also urged the people to come forward in eradicating social evils like female foeticide. He further expressed concern over drug abuse and added that youth should engage themselves in acquiring knowledge, social work and mainstream activities.

The four-day long International Lavi fair is being organized at Rampur Bushahr in Shimla district. The 300-year-old Lavi fair is an important trade event between India and Tibet. It also provides a platform for social and cultural events.

The folk artists from different parts of the state have participated in the fair. A colourful cultural programme was also presented on the occasion. The fair has its own historical importance and is famous not only for trade but also old traditions.
