Trilateral agreement shows its colors; India's first shipment reaches Afghanistan via Chabahar

Kabul, November 12: As a significant step of tripartite cooperation, the shipments of wheat sent from India have reached Afghanistan. For the first time, goods from India have been sent to Afghanistan through Chabahar Port of Iran. It will clear the way for the Chabahar port to be operational for excellent connectivity from Afghanistan.

 

This is the first shipment to go to Afghanistan through Chabahar after the trilateral agreement to develop the port as a transport and transit corridor between India, Iran and Afghanistan was signed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi with Iranian President Hassan Rouhani and Afghan President Ashraf Ghani, , in May’16.

 

On October 29, External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj and Foreign Minister Salahuddin Rabbani and Iranian Foreign Minister Javad Zaraf started sending shipment through video conferencing. In the next few months, 6 more wheat shipment will be sent to Afghanistan. It is part of the commitment to supply 1.1 million tonnes of wheat from India for the people of Afghanistan.
