PM Modi visits Mahaveer Philippine Foundation in Manila; tweets about his young friend who wants to be a policeman

Manila, November 13: Prime Minister Narendra Modi is widely known for his dynamic leadership, extreme determination for the betterment of India and also for having a kind gesture for Indians residing abroad. PM Modi always meet, interact with Indian communities residing out of the country and this makes him more valuable across the world. Notably, PM Modi on Monday visited the Mahaveer Philippine Foundation in Manila and interacted with the Indian community too.

 

PM Modi visited Mahaveer Philippine Foundation in Manila which provides free Indian-made prosthesis 'Jaipur Foot' to needy amputees. On this occasion, PM Modi interacted with nine-year-old Carlo Migel Silvano from Bulacan province. Carlo Migel expressed his desire to become a policeman in future.

PM Modi in a series of tweet said, "Wonderful visit to the Mahaveer Philippine Foundation. Their efforts of fitting the Jaipur Foot on needy amputees have touched several lives. During my visit, saw a series of exhibits and interacted with amputees."


The Prime Minister also interacted with a number of children at the foundation. "'I want to be a policeman' my young friend told me... glad to see the Jaipur Foot giving wings to the aspirations of many youngsters like him," said Modi in another tweet.


Meanwhile, External Affairs Ministry Spokesperson Raveesh Kumar tweeted, “Sharing expertise to intensify humanitarian cooperation. Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited Mahaveer Philippine Foundation, which has rehabilitated million lives with the Indian-made 'Jaipur Foot'".


Prime Minister Narendra Modi reached Manila on Sunday to take part in ASEAN Business and Investment Summit. On the sidelines of ASEAN he met and interacted with various world leaders including US President Donald Trump, Chinese Premier Li Keqiang, and Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev. A gala dinner was hosted by Filipino President Rodrigo Duterte ahead of the summit.

PM Modi also met the scientists working in International Rice Research Institute (IRRI) which has developed a better quality of rice seed and helped the global community in addressing food scarcity issues. He also interacted with Indian scientists, students, researchers working at IRRI. India’s ICAR and IRRI have been cooperating for four decades.

BACKGROUND:

The Mahaveer Philippine Foundation is a long-running humanitarian cooperation programme between India and the Philippines, was set up by highly regarded Indian origin Mayor of Manila Dr. Ramon Bagatsing in 1985. The foundation has been instrumental in the fitment of the 'Jaipur Foot' to needy amputees. About 757 amputees benefited from the programme this year.

The Mahaveer Philippines Foundation is an associated centre of Jaipur-based Bhagwan Mahaveer Viklang Sahayata Samiti which is the world's largest organization rehabilitating over 1.55 million differently-abled people through 'Jaipur Foot'.
