PM Modi meets Chinese Premier on the sidelines East Asia Summit
Manila, November 15: Prime Minister Narendra Modi had a lounge meeting with the Chinese premier Li Keqiang on the sidelines of the East Asia Summit on Tuesday. The two leaders have also had a little chat on Sunday also during a gala dinner hosted by Philippines President Rodrigo Duterte.
Also, Beijing had recently once again opposition to move to declare Pathankot terror attack mastermind and Jaish-e-Muhammad chief Masood Azhar as a global terrorist by the UN.
“Two neighbours in deep conversation. PM @narendramodi with Chinese Premier Li Keqiang on the margins of #EastAsiaSummit Summit in #Manila,” MEA spokesperson Raveesh Kumar tweeted along with a photograph of the two leaders engaging in a conversation while sitting on a sofa.
In an address at the ASEAN-China summit, Li said his country was committed to strengthen ties with the 10-member grouping amid mounting concerns by several countries of the bloc over growing Chinese assertiveness in the South China Sea.
PM Modi, in his address at the East Asia Summit, conveyed India’s total support and commitment to work with the East Asia Summit, an influential bloc, to address political, security and trade related issues in the region.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s engagements had been tightly
packed on last day. It all started with his bilateral meetings with the Prime
Ministers of Australia, Japan, Vietnam and New Zealand and the Sultan of Brunei
Darussalam. In the multilateral forums of the East Asia Summit and the
ASEAN-India Summit, all the leaders insisted upon striking a common ground
against terrorism. It is a classic case of the global community recognizing
India’s stand all along.
In the ASEAN-India Summit, it was proposed to include the performances by the cultural troupes of the South East Asian nations on the epic Ramayana in the Delhi event to commemorate the forum’s 25th anniversary. A growing recognition of India’s Act East Policy that hinges on the ASEAN nations has been well evident all along, during the key summits of the Indo-Pacific region.
