Under PMBJP, About 2800 Jan Aushadhi stores are operational to provide healthcare at affordable prices

New Delhi, November 16: To provide healthcare at affordable prices the government has concentrated its efforts. About 2800 Jan Aushadhi stores are operational under Pradhan Mantri Bhartiya Janaushadhi Pariyojana so that essential and critical medicines should be brought within the reach of the poor.

 

Till March 2014, 80 Jan Aushadhi stores were operational under Pradhan Mantri Bhartiya Janaushadhi Pariyojana. These numbers saw a huge growth in the period of three years. Until October 2017, About 2,800 Jan Aushadhi stores were started.

 

From 2008 to 2014, 100 Medicines and Surgical items were brought under Pradhan Mantri Bhartiya Janaushadhi Pariyojana. While 2014-2017 636 Medicines and 132 surgical items were fetched under PMBJP.

With an objective of making quality medicines available at affordable prices for all, particularly the poor and disadvantaged, through exclusive outlets Jan Aushadhi Medical Store, so as to reduce out of pocket expenses in healthcare the Pharma Advisory Forum in its meeting held on 23rd April 2008, decided to launch the Jan Aushadhi Campaign - starting with the sale of generic medicines through dedicated sales outlets called Pradhan Mantri Bhartiya Janaushadhi Kendra in various districts of the country. It is proposed that at least one PMBJK will be opened in each of the 630 districts of the country to be extended to sub-divisional levels as well as major towns and village centers.
