Gujarat election: Senior Cop PC Baranda resigns; might contest poll from Bhiloda segment

Chhota Udepur, Nov 16: In a surprising move, senior IPS officer PC Baranda tendered his resignation. ahead of the crucial Gujarat assembly polls. He was serving as Superintendent of Police of Chhota Udepur district. According to media reports, the 58-year-old officer is all set to begin his political journey from Bhiloda segment, a tribal-dominated area of Arvalli district. The top officer expressed his wish to contest poll on BJP tickets.

As reported by a leading Gujarat daily Divya Bhaskar, Baranda is considered to be BJP sympathizer and shares a good rapport with then Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi. PC Baranda began his service in in 1996 as a deputy superintendent of police and later in 2007 he was promoted to the IPS cadre. Speaking to the media Baranda confirmed the development of his resignation. The senior IPS officer slammed Congress party for stalling the development works in his hometown Bhiloda.

Bhiloda is considered to be a Congress bastion. Anil Joshiara of Congress is the incumbent MLA of this region. Anil Joshiyara of Congress has been the MLA of Bhiloda since 1995. In 1998 he lost the post against BJP's Upendra Trivedi. A seat reserved for Scheduled Tribe, Bhiloda will witness interesting fight with the entry of PC Baranda.
