Washington, November 16: US-based think tank, Pew Research Centre stated that Prime Minister Narendra Modi's popularity among Indians hasn't died down. The nonpartisan fact tank released the main findings of its latest survey yesterday conducted among 2,464 respondents in India.

"Three years into PM Modi's five-year tenure, the honeymoon period for his administration may be over, but the public's love affair with current conditions in India is even more intense," the survey report stated.

It said Mr Modi "remains by far the most popular national figure in Indian politics tested in the survey", with his favourable ratings 31 percentage points higher than for Congress president Sonia Gandhi and 30 points more than for her son and Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi, who runs the party.

"The public's positive assessment of PM Modi is buoyed by growing contentment with the Indian economy: More than eight in 10 say economic conditions are good, up 19 percentage points since immediately before the 2014 election," said the report.

The survey found young Indians between 18 and 29 showed slightly greater intensity of support for PM Modi than those aged 50 and over.

PM Modi at 88 percent is 30 points ahead of Congress leader Rahul Gandhi with 58 per cent, 31 points ahead of Congress President Sonia Gandhi with 57 percent and 49 points ahead of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, who is at 39 percent. The survey was conducted between February 21 and March 10 this year.
