JK gets additional electricity of 792 Megawatts due to increase in power requirement

New Delhi, November 17: Centre has allocated an additional electricity of 792 Megawatts for Jammu and Kashmir looking upon the increase in the power requirement in the valley with the onset of winter. Also, the Prime Minister Narendra Modi led central government has vowed to provide more electricity to Jammu and Kashmir if it requires.

 

Notably, in view of an increase in the power requirement in State of Jammu & Kashmir Government of India has decided to allocate an additional 792 Megawatts for Jammu and Kashmir. If the State requires more power, the Government of India will consider allocating additional power to the State.

The power requirement in Jammu and Kashmir is met from the generation from allocated share from central generating stations, their own power plants and power purchased from the market. The peak demand of Jammu and Kashmir during the current year was 2,768 MW and the demand met was 2214 MW, thus, leaving a shortfall of around 554 MW.

At present, around 70% of the energy requirement is being met from Central Generating Stations in the State. Importantly, the allocation of power to Jammu and Kashmir from Central Generating Stations (CGS) is 2,397 MW. The supply from CGS includes power stations of NTPC, NHPC, SJVNL, NPCIL, NLC, etc.

After, PM Modi led central government came in power, at least 5,95,007 villages has been brightened so far all over the country. Out of 6,337 census villages of Jammu and Kashmir 6,237 villages (98.4%) have been electrified. 100 villages are yet to be electrified.
