Linguistic Decision: Urdu as the second official language of Telangana

Hyderabad, November 17: The state government of Telangana has declared Urdu as their second official language. This declaration is levied on all 31 districts of the state. Telugu is the first official language of Telangana.


 

As the Urdu speaking population has increased in the state i.e. 12.69 percent it became a point of focus. So Urdu was declared the second official language as per section 2 of the Telangana Official Languages Act, 1966 in nine districts (of total 10), except Khammam, of the Telangana region before bifurcation of undivided Andhra Pradesh, as per the statement of objects and reasons of the bill.After the formation of Telangana state in 2014, the 10 districts were reorganised into 31 districts last year.

 

Now all government offices from the Chief Minister's office to District Collectorate will receive all petitions in Urdu also, every office in Telangana will have an Urdu-speaking officer and All competitive examinations in the state will also be conducted in Urdu.

Telangana is the first state to make Urdu as the second official language as Delhi gave that status to Urdu along with Punjabi.
