Hyderabad, November 18: Rajiv Gandhi International airport, Hyderabad will get its second terminal. The work for the second terminal will begin by February 2018. Expansion of terminals will cost Rs 2500 Cr. This will help to reduce the burden of air traffic on the existing terminal.

It will also assist in handling passengers more as the airport authorities plan to handle 25 million passengers per annum (mppa) after building this terminal. Additionally it will increase the capacity to handle more international carriers.

GMR Hyderabad International Airport Ltd (GHIAL) CEO S.G.K. Kishore said that if the traffic grows, the overall capacity can be increased to 34-35 million and the expansion including second runway can extend to five years.

We have commenced expansion works on the airport and the new terminal works would be taken up from February-March 2018. The expansion will be completed over two-and-a-half years. The airport will then be expanded to handle 25 mppa and thereafter another expansion plan would take it up to 35 mppa,” said Kishore.

The second terminal will also attract more airlines to connect with Hyderabad Airport which will benefit the ‘Pearl city’.
