Reservation policy of Bihar govt reaches outsourcing jobs

Patna, November 2: On Wednesday Bihar government decided to apply its reservation policy even in outsourcing jobs. According to the new decision by Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and his ministerial colleagues, the reservation formula of the state will be applied to outsourcing jobs including computer executives, IT assistants, drivers, peons and others.

During a press conference, Principal Cabinet Secretary Brajesh Mehrotra announced the decision. According to the new rule, private outsourcing agencies who want to work with the state have now to recruit based on the reservation policy of the state government.

In addition to that, “Besides, there will also be reservation in appointments of doctors, engineers, teachers and other posts on a contractual basis by the State government,” he said. Through these outsourcing agencies mostly technical and engineering staff at the Block and District level is being hired.

50 percent of the government jobs are reserved for SCs, STs, OBCs and differently-abled candidates in Bihar. Along with that, there is a provision of 35 percent horizontal quota for women in all reserved categories.

Illustrating how the process will be, "A very clear example will be computer operators working in government departments. They are procured by Beltron (Bihar State Electronics Development Corporation) from private providers. The reservation policy will now be applicable to all such outsourced operators," Principal Secretary, general administration department, Amir Subhan said.
