Lauding the efforts of police athletes, CM Fadnavis announced Rs 3 Cr sports fund for Maha Police

Mumbai, November 2: On Tuesday Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis announced Rs 3-crore sports fund for Maharashtra Police while addressing the, 66th All-India Police Wrestling Cluster Championship 2017. Praising the police athletes, CM Fadnavis said that the country was slated to achieve greater success taking into account the different medals being bagged by the police athletes at national and international level. 

The function of the 66th All-India Police Wrestling Cluster Championship 2017, took place at the SRPF Ground 1 and 2 under the aegis of All India Police Sports Control Board from October 27-31.This announcement came on the request of Director General of Police (DGP) Satish Mathur for a sports fund for the police force in the state and the permission to build a synthetic track for the athletes.

Addressing the function, CM Fadnavis said that “sports infuse a spirit of brotherhood and camaraderie amongst the policemen and are the best form of recreation. It helps in building a strong nation through the spirit of sportsmanship and national unity.” Further, he lauded the efforts of the police athletes for their sporting talent.

CM Fadnavis also appreciated the State Reserve Police Force (SRPF), Maharashtra, for conducting the event in a professional and disciplined manner in accordance with rules of police discipline and ethos of the national police fraternity. A total of 35 teams from the state police organisations and central paramilitary forces took part in the championship. Participants included 1,540 men and 501 women for competitions in wrestling, weightlifting, Kabaddi and boxing categories for both men and women athletes, where 29 trophies and 400 medals were given away to the winners.

Wrestling Champion Geeta Phogat, Pune Police Commissioner Rashmi Shukla, Additional DGP Pradnya Sarvade, Sanjiv Kumar Singhal, Special IG Suresh Kumar Mekala, SRPF Commandant Group II Sarang Awad, Highway Police SP Amol Tambe and SRPF Commandant Group I Sunil Phulari were also present on the occasion.
