Mumbai bags maximum number of UNESCO Heritage Awards

Mumbai, November 2: Mumbai is known for many things, for its street food, Fashion Street, marine drive, Queen’s necklace, Asiatic Library etc. It’s a cherishing moment for all Mumbaikars as Mumbai bagged maximum UNESCO Heritage Awards this year. Congratulations!

On Wednesday, the 2017 UNESCO Asia-Pacific Awards for Cultural Heritage Conservation were announced where four restored city landmarks were among the 16 winners from six countries - Australia, China, India, Iran, New Zealand and Singapore. Meanwhile, amongst this, all Mumbai bagged the maximum number of UNESCO Heritage Awards for - Christ Church and Royal Opera House (Award of Merit), Bomonjee Hormarjee Wadia Fountain and Clock Tower and Wellington Fountain (Honourable Mention).

Ahead, Delhi bagged for Haveli Dharampura in Shahjahanabad. The other two winners from India were the Sri Ranganathaswamy Temple in Srirangam, Tamil Nadu, and the Gateways of Gohad Fort near Gwalior, Madhya Pradesh.

Also, Sri Ranganathaswamy Temple in Srirangam of Tamil Nadu has become the first temple in Tamil Nadu to bag such prestigious award.

The jury selected projects from 43 submissions, including 31 in the Conservation category and 12 for New Design. Following is the list of winners:
