Sittwe, November 2: After calling several groups to join the peace process, Myanmar’s de-facto leader Aung San Suu Kyi, visited conflict-torn areas of Rakhine on Thursday. Violence in the state started in late August. The unrest was triggered by an attack on security forces from a militant group the Arakan Rohingya Salvation Army (Arsa). As a result of the violence, thousands of people had to flee to other countries.

As per the local report, the leader first reached the state capital of Sittwe and then headed to the northern part of the state where many Rohingya villages are located. 20 people traveling in two military helicopters accompanied Suu Kyi including state officials and military and police officer.

Though the Nobel peace prize winner was criticized heavily by the international community, she always emphasized that the country being a new democracy does not have enough resources to solve all the problems immediately. Last month she announced to start the rehabilitation project for refugees and later she launched it. She sought help from business tycoons to help for the initiative.

Thousands of people moved to Bangladesh and still are moving to Bangladesh. But Suu Kyi promised to allow the return of refugees who can prove they were residents of Myanmar. For the solution of the crisis, talks with Bangladesh are still going on to reach an agreement soon.
