AIBA Women Youth Boxing Championship: Indian Women Boxers to start campaign in Guwahati

Guwahati, November 20: The Indian Women Boxers will start their campaign in AIBA (International Boxing Association (amateur)) from Monday which is held in Guwahati. In preliminaries, three young boxers will engage in the boxing battle. India has a robust 10-member group in the event.

Boxer Shashi Chopra will play against Uzbekistan challenger in the 54-kilogram category. Vanlalhriapuii of Mizoram will tackle Korean player in 60 kg category. In 69 kg Category, Astha Pahwa will take on an opponent from Bulgaria.

In the 2017 AIBA Women’s Youth World Boxing Championships, Sunday saw the first day of action with nine sessions of Flyweight (51kg) boxing. The second day of competition will see 30 bouts in total as the Light Flyweight (48kg), Bantamweight (54kg), Featherweight (57kg), Lightweight (60kg), Welterweight (69kg) and Middleweight (75kg) boxers take to the ring in Guwahati.

The Chief Minister of Assam Sarbanand Sonowal inaugurated the event in existence of office bearers from AIBA and Boxing Federation of India. Nearly 200 players from over 30 countries are taking part in the event.
