Bangladesh is in talks with Myanmar on Rohingya repatriation
Dhaka, November 20: The two countries bothered with Rohingya issue, Myanmar and Bangladesh are in negotiation talks. They are aiming to reach a deal on repatriation of displaced Rohingyas. Bangladeshi Foreign Minister will address the issue in Myanmar in this week.
"Bangladesh and Myanmar are in the process of negotiation for a bilateral agreement for repatriation of displaced people and expect to form a Joint Working Group to facilitate the repatriation," said a Bangladeshi ministry statement.
While Bangladeshi Foreign Minister will attend an Asia-Europe (ASEM) meeting in Myanmar on Monday and Tuesday, he will discuss the Rohingya issue in later days to reach a bilateral agreement. It has been said that both countries have almost reached an understanding on this issue but there are few points still need to be agreed.
Japanese Foreign Minister Taro Kono had a meeting with his Bangladeshi counterpart where he promised $18.6 million in aid to ease the Rohingya crisis. Along with Japan’s Taro Kono U.S. congressional delegation, European Union foreign policy chief Federica Mogherini and the foreign ministers of Germany, Sweden visited Rohingya camps in Cox’s Bazar’s Kutupalong area.
