North Bengal awaits Mamata Banerjee’s visit to the area, expectations rise highly

Darjeeling, November 20: Darjeeling and surrounding hill areas have already spent almost half of a year in a political turmoil. Gorkha Janmukti Morcha started the agitation long time back. From then political leaders of GJM divided into two groups, some police officers lost their lives, even some GJM supporters also lost theirs but till now no permanent solution has been sought. Though Darjeeling is now in a better condition compared to same of a few days ago, a permanent solution is a necessity. Against this backdrop, Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee will visit Darjeeling on Monday after 5 months.

Bengal CM will reach Bagdogra on Monday evening and will undertake an all-party meet on Tuesday. The fourth rounds of talk which will be held in Pintail Village on the outskirts of Siliguri are expected to be a big one. After talks, CM is likely to Pintail Village, located at Dagapur, on the outskirts of Siliguri. Officers are also very busy as they may be asked about ongoing projects and to speed those up.

As panchayet election is coming up, TMC will try to keep its support base intact and that is why development issues are going to be agenda of the talks. Tourism Ministry is also beefing up its work as during winter hill usually attracts a huge number of tourists. North Bengal development minister Rabindranath Chakrabarty band Tourism Minister Goutam Deb both had a very tight schedule ahead of CM’s trip.

In September Mamata Banerjee formed a new administration in Darjeeling making Binay Tamang, the head of the committee and provided the good amount of fund also. After the withdrawal of strike, she said, “We will immediately restore the public distribution system. We want the bandh to be withdrawn fully and normalcy to be restored as soon as possible. The process of dialogue will continue.”

Before coming back to Kolkata, CM will also have an administrative meeting in Jalpaiguri where almost 600 officers will take part. This meeting is going to be one of the largest meetings in North Bengal in recent time.
