Nagpur, November 20: India’s first electric vehicle charging station was installed in Nagpur on Sunday. This will spread the message of saving our environment from pollution. This charging station is installed at State-owned Indian Oil Corporation (IOC)’s petrol pump.

IOC, in collaboration with Ola, launched the country's first electric charging station at one of its petrol-diesel stations in Nagpur, a company statement said. "Nagpur, being the first city to introduce the electric public transportation model in India, has added one more feather to its cap by adding the first electric charging station at Indian Oil's COCO (company-owned, company-operated) fuel station in the city," an IOC release said.

Additionally Ola kicked off its first electric taxi from the city. It has also tied up with auto major Mahindra & Mahindra for buying 250 vehicles. With Ola plying electric cars in the city, it makes the major client for the charging outlets.

Meanwhile India’s leading car companies Toyota and Suzuki have joined their hands to make electric car for our country. Both the companies have signed a memorandum of understanding which will see both companies working together for introducing electric vehicles (EVs) in the Indian market by around 2020.
