Telangana to take final call on Telugu as a compulsory subject

Hyderabad, November 20: Telangana State government under the leadership of Chief  Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao is all set to fine tune the historic proposal of Telugu as a compulsory subject from class 1 to 10. Prof S V Satyanarayana who heads the panel will submit its finding on the implementation of the courageous move by TRS government.

According to media reports, the committee members took the stock of laws enacted by the neighboring states like Tamil Nadu, Karnataka for the effective drafting of language policy. The committee is also in consultation with the officials of CBSE, ICSE schools to introduce Telugu as a compulsory subject. The government appointed body is also working on the three-language formula with reference to research conducted by the NCERT. On this occasion official of Telangana State Board of Intermediate Education were present.

On Oct 31 The Telangana government had constituted a panel to study the legal and academic aspects to introduce Telugu as a 'compulsory subject' from class I to XII in all educational institutions in the state.
