Harare, November 20: Zimbabwe still faces the political uncertainty of its future as President Robert Mugabe has denied announcing his expected resignation. It was expected that he would step down in a public television address but he did not mention a single word on it. As it was planned war veterans may go for the impeachment process and military will also come up with a statement on Monday.

The national ruling party of Zimbabwe, Zanu PF has already sacked Mugabe. Ironically Mugabe co-founded the party. The party appointed Emmerson Mnangagwa, the former vice president fired by Mugabe earlier this month, as new party leader. He was given a 24-hour time limit till mid-Monday to resign. But as his speech did not indicate such step the party has already started working with the impeachment process.

Despite party’s decision he said, he will preside over an upcoming conference of the ruling Zanu-PF party. “I am aware that many developments have happened in the party. Given failing of the past, such developments are understandable. We cannot be guided by vengefulness,” Mugabe said.

“The army is taking its own route, and as politicians, we are taking our own route, but the ultimate goal is to make sure he goes, which he should have done tonight,” after the speech, the chief whip of Zimbabwe’s ruling party said.

A Huge crowd gathered in Harare expecting Mugabe’s resignation and after the speech, the nation was left stunned. They expected to witness the end of Mugabe era and already celebrated on Sunday. But some political analysts are telling Mugabe will even seek loopholes to avoid impeachment. He is probably buying time to be driven out so the issue of military invention gets triggered.
