Mumbai, November 20: Standing in queues for getting tickets for various modes like bus and train now will come to an end as around 50 lakh commuter can travel using a single card in Mumbai local trains as well as in BEST buses. As Mumbai Rail Vikas Corporation is taking this initiative to connect Railways with buses and making journey a bit hassle free in the city.

The railways will issue smart cards to around 50 lakh season pass holders in the first phase which will enable them to travel through both the modes of transport using single smart card. This is the second attempt of government as earlier it was initiated in 2007 as ‘Go Mumbai’ card but was scrapped in 2010.

Meeting was conducted in this concern on November 14 and details about the project were discussed. Details about the project integrated by Mumbai Rail Vikas Corporation (MRVC) were discussed.

“Meetings are in process with the Railway Board and if the board apporves it then mostly within two months we shall call for the tenders” says official of MRVC.

If this scheme gets a success then it will be connected with all modes of transport later.
