Massive fire in Plastic Factory of Ludhiana leaves 11 dead

Chandigarh, November 21: A plastic factory collapsed followed by major fire broke out in Ludhiana on Monday. This took lives of 11 till now. It is feared that around 25 are still trapped under the debris of the building.

 

The five-storey building, located in a congested part of the Industrial Area of Ludhiana, had collapsed on Monday afternoon following a powerful blast triggered by a major fire in the building earlier. The chemical polices were stored in Amarsan Polymers and there was a fire in plastic things. To extinguish the fire, at least 15 fire fighters were rushed to the spot on Monday, which took about six hours to control them.

 

The team of National Disaster Relief Force (NDRF), Army, Punjab Police, Fire Department and a local NGO were engaged in rescuing those trapped. And still the rescue operation is in process. Those injured are admitted to nearby hospitals.

Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh said he was "shocked and saddened" by the incident. "Have asked district administration to extend all help to NDRF in rescue operations," he tweeted.
