Under Namami Gange, SPMG formed for beautification and cleanliness of Ganga ghats

Dehradun, November 21: For keeping the surrounding and the River Ganga clean the Chief Minister of Uttarakhand Trivendra Singh Rawat conducted a meeting with HRD minister Dr. Satyapal Singh and departmental officials on Namami Gange. They discussed to keeping Ganga clean and incessant in the meeting. Detailed discussions on beautification of ghats, cleaning of ghats, cleanliness of the Ganga, sewer treatment plan (STP) was conducted.

The Chief Minister said that the work done by the STPs should be ensured that all the houses, hotels and other institutions are connected to it. Its regular monitoring should be done. He said that the terrestrial inspection should be rated every 15 days. He further added that Namami Gange is an important project of the Central Government. To accelerate the work, the meeting of the Ganga Committee at the state and district level should be held.

 

Quick Dashboard for State Project Monitoring Group (SPMG) should be formed. By which the physical and financial progress of the work can be accurately assessed on time. He said that cleanliness of the Ganga will be possible only after working together with all concerned departments. Sati Ghat situated at Kankhal in Haridwar should also be developed under Namami Gange. Regular cleaning campaign should be run on Ganga Ghats.

The Chief Minister said that action should be taken against those who put solid waste on the banks of the Ganga. He said that it should be ensured that the waste is put in the fixed places only.

Minister Satyapal Singh said that all the work done under Namami Ganga should be completed within the prescribed time frame. He said that it is necessary to run mass awareness campaign at the mass level for cleanliness of Ganga. He said that it should be ensured that all industries and hotels are connected to STP. All industries should be inspected whether they have the proper arrangement of contaminated water Effluent Treatment Plant (ETP). If there is no appropriate system of ETP in any industry, then quick action should be taken on them. For this, the police can also act actively. He added NGOs and other organizations should also be included along with all the departments for cleanliness of Ganga.

Namami Gange is an Integrated Conservation Mission, approved by the Union Government in June 2014 with the budget cost of Rs.20,000 Crore to achieve the twin objectives of effective reduction of pollution, conservation and rejuvenation of National River Ganga.
