Washington, November 21: The United States has been trying to put the highest pressure on North Korea diplomatically since a long time. Taking a very provocative step diplomatically, US President Donald Trump has designated North Korea as a state sponsor of terrorism. After 10 years the US is returning North Korea to the list.

In 2008, then U.S. President George W. Bush removed North Korea from the list. He saw an opportunity to halt North Korea’s nuclear ambition. Pyongyang agreed to take the deal for coming out of the list and to receive a certain amount of international aid.

"It should have happened years ago," President Donald Trump said. He also termed the hermit country as a "murderous regime." It was first put on the list in 1988 as it planted the bomb in a South Korean Jet killing 155 people.

Following the decision, US treasury department will come up with the highest level of sanctions on North Korea. The effort is being put to make the nuclear freak nation more alienated from the international community.

"The U.S. is ready to continue to tighten pressure on the Kim regime with the intention to have him understand this is only going to get worse until you're ready to come and talk, " US state secretary Rex Tillerson said.

The list not only includes North Korea but Iran, Sudan and Syria along with it. The countries have been identified as those that have “repeatedly provided support for acts of international terrorism.”
