Dehradun, November 22: If the demand for development is important then the commitment of environmental protection is also important, the interference between them is challenging said the Chief Minister of Uttarakhand Trivendra Singh Rawat. The CM addressed the inaugural session of the two-day workshop organized on "Disaster-Safe Infrastructure: Possibilities and Challenges in the Himalaya Zone" on Tuesday. He further added that whatever development work is going on it should be according to the standards of disaster management. It is the Government's concern that people remain safe.

The Chief Minister said that 38 low magnitude earthquakes have occurred in Uttarakhand in last two years. There has been an increase in the incidence of earthquake and cloudburst in the last few years. Certainly environmental imbalance is responsible for these events. The Chief Minister said that rescue is better than treatment. The best way to avoid disasters is to prepare them.

He said that the construction of the building, the focus of the environment and constant vigilance, these three things should always been kept in mind. He also praised the traditional Vaastu style in mountainous regions. Giving the example of Uttarkashi earthquake, he said that there was no harm to the old construction-style buildings in the Yamuna valley.

Member of NDMA, Kamal Kishor said that climate change should be needed to see the events of earthquake and extreme rainfall in totality. The task of disaster management in Uttarakhand is a matter of inspiration for other states. He said that bringing the available information in your practice is a big challenge. The infrastructure in the country, along with the Himalayan states, is rapidly growing. As our understanding of the disaster is increasing, the challenges to future infrastructure facilities are also increasing.
