Indo Nepal borders to be shut for 72 hours

Kathmandu, November 22: Nepal - India will shut its border crossing from Friday for 72 hours. This decision was taken for security reasons as the first phase of parliamentary and provincial assembly elections in Baitadi district is to be held on November 26.

 

Nepal is holding provincial and parliamentary elections in two phases on November 26 and December 7. According to Baitadi District Administration Office, the border will be sealed form Friday morning till the evening of Sunday (Nov 26). The local authorities will shut the border crossings at Jhulaghat, southern banks of Mahakali River, Dattu and Joljibi border points.

Chief District Officer at Baitadi Siddharaj Joshi, however, said that due consideration will be given to sick people and emergency movements during the border seal.

The area of Baitadi district has been declared as ‘No-Alcohol’ Zone till the voting process gets completed. CDO Joshi said that all the local authorities and police units have been made aware of the administration’s decision and instruction has been given to put stop on the selling and distribution of alcohol in the district.
