New Delhi, November 22: Curiosity builds up day by day over our Red Planet as currently it is the only planet which may support human life. Mars is an open playground for scientists where several numbers of studies are blooming with new outcomes. But for now let us glance over these fresh images clicked by Mars Colour Camera (MCC).

This MCC image was taken on Nov 9, 2017 from an altitude of 42,433 km and it has been color corrected. The image shows the part of Mars disc with a spatial resolution of 2.2 km. The major volcanic summits in the Tharsis region like Olympus mons, Arsia mons, Pavonis mons & Ascraeus mons are clearly visible in the image. Mars is in 85o solar longitude (Ls) and as expected during this season, the cloud formation (arrow) is seen around Ascraeus mons.

Tharsis Region: Tharsis is a vast volcanic plateau centered near the equator in the western hemisphere of Mars. The region is home to the largest volcanoes in the Solar System.

Olympus Mons: Olympus Mons is a very large shield volcano on the planet Mars. By one measure, it has a height of nearly 22 km. Olympus Mons stands about two and a half times as tall as Mount Everest's height above sea level.

Arsia Mons: Arsia Mons is the southernmost of three volcanos on the Tharsis bulge near the equator of the planet Mars. To its north is Pavonis Mons, and north of that is Ascraeus Mons. The tallest volcano in the solar system, Olympus Mons, is to its northwest.

Pavonis Mons: Pavonis Mons is a large shield volcano located in the Tharsis region of the planet Mars. It is the middle member of a chain of three volcanic mountains

Ascraeus Mons: Ascraeus Mons is a large shield volcano located in the Tharsis region of the planet Mars. It is the northernmost and tallest of three shield volcanoes collectively known as the Tharsis Montes.
