Parliament winter session likely from Dec 15

New Delhi, Nov 22: Putting at rest the speculations over holding the winter session of the Parliament the Centre is planning to convene the winter session after the Gujarat assembly elections.

 

The process of assembly elections will be over by December 14. And there is a strong possibility of Parliament session commencing from the very next day i.e. Dec 15.

The Cabinet Committee on Parliamentary Affairs (CCPA) held its meeting today under the chairmanship of Home Minister Rajnath Singh to deliberate on the dates of the winter session of the parliament.

The opposition parties, especially the Congress party has been levelling allegations against the government for deliberately delaying the winter session.

According to sources, the session is likely to be held from December 15 to January 5, 2018. Briefing media persons Finance Minister Arun Jaitley said that the schedule of the winter session will not clash with the assembly elections and will be a regular session.

He said that during the elections the political parties directly address the people and normally the election dates and parliament session does not overlap. Therefore, he said that we have taken care that while convening regular winter session the elections and sessions date do not overlap.

Asked whether a session which begins in December can continue in January without the customary address of the president, Jaitley said the issue was settled long back.

Parliamentary Affairs Minister Ananth Kumar had said the Winter Session, which generally starts from November's third week, would be convened in December.
