Mogadishu, November 22: The United States Military have been playing an active role in some regions of Somalia to eliminate al-Shabaab militants from the country. Another air-strike launched by the US killed al-Shabaab militants, the US military said. The strike was conducted in coordination with the Government of Somalia.

The operation occurred 125 miles northwest of the Somali capital, Mogadishu. Local media reported the operation was carried out in a mountainous settlement called Leb-Adde. The US has launched at least 10 missiles in the area targeting Al-Shabaab base.

“Al-Shabaab has pledged allegiance to al-Qaeda and is dedicated to providing safe haven for terrorist attacks throughout the world. Al-Shabaab has publicly committed to planning and conducting attacks against the U.S. and our partners in the region,” a statement from United States Africa Command stated.

Forces in the area will continue such attacks to redeem terrorist threats. They will continue targeting terrorists, their training camps and safe havens throughout Somalia, the region.

The pace of such attacks has significantly increased this year after US President Donald Trump has given broader authorization to attack such groups. The strike is the 29th by the U.S. inside Somalia this year. Even in last 13 days, 7 attacks occurred. Currently, there are approximately 500 U.S. troops in Somalia.
