Volcano erupt for the first time in 54 years in Bali

Bali, November 22: The Volcano erupted in Bali on Tuesday for the first time in 54 years. Confirming the disaster the National Disaster Mitigation Agency of Indonesia said that the eruption of Mount Agung began yesterday. The volcano last erupted in 1963 killing nearly 1,600 people.

 

According to the local media, within a 7.5 kilometer radius of the volcano, the people have been advised to stay away from areas. The spokesperson of BNPB Sutopo Purwo Nguroho on his twitter account posted that Mount Agung began emiting smoke 700m (2,300 ft) above its peak. Authorities said Air services in Bali have so far not been affected.

 

The Mount Agung’s last eruption occurred 54 years ago, on 7th March 1963 until February 1964. The eruption took nearly 1500 lives. In September the volcano has stirred life of 140,000 people which resulted in to leave the area. Mount Agung lies some 75 kilometers from Bali's tourist areas, which attract millions of tourists every year.
