UDAN scheme: Flight from Mumbai to Kolhapur to take off from Dec 15

Mumbai, November 23: Flight service from Mumbai to Kolhapur will restart from December 15. The service was shut from six years. This service will be a milestone under the Central Governments ‘UDAN’ scheme.

 

Due to lack of proper timeslot for this route, gaining permission was getting delayed. But this obstruction is also solved, as the authorities have given permission for the flight service between Mumbai and Kolhapur. The authorities inspected Kolhapur airport and gave the permission. Efforts are being taken to get the morning slot for the flight. Moreover initiatives are also taken connect Nashik with Mumbai and Pune beginning December 15.

UDAN (Ude Desh ka Aam Naagrik) is a regional airport development and "Regional Connectivity Scheme" (RCS) of Government of India, with the objective of "Let the common citizen of the country fly", aimed at making air travel affordable and widespread, to boost inclusive national economic development, job growth and air transport infrastructure development of all regions and states of India.

 

The benefits of the scheme is development of new and enhance the existing regional airports to increase the number of operational airports from 70 (in May 2016) to at least 150 airports (by December 2018) with regular scheduled flights and addition of several hundred financially-viable capped-airfare new regional flight routes to connect more than 100 underserved and unserved airports in smaller towns with each other as well as with well served airports in bigger cities by using "Viability Gap Funding" (VGF) where needed.
