Chandigarh, November 23: Annual Income limit of Other Backward Classes (OBCs) and Backward Classes (BCs) has been increased from Rs 6 Lakhs to 8 Lakhs. This will help the OBCs to avail more benefit of reservations.

Earlier People whose annual income was 6 lakhs they were only eligible for the reservations and above which were considered as the creamy layer. But the limit has been increased from 6 lakhs per annum to 8 lakhs per annum.

The decision is in line with the central government's directive to ensure greater social justice and inclusion of members of the Other Backward Classes (OBC) and Backward Classes (BCs) in the matter of reservation. This was the fourth revision of the creamy layer, which was fixed at Rs 1 lakh in 1993 and subsequently hiked to Rs 2.5 lakh in 2004, Rs 4.5 lakh in 2008 and Rs 6 lakh in 2013.

An official spokesperson said that notification has already been issued in this regard. He said that now onwards, persons having gross annual income less than Rs.8 lakh, could avail the benefits of the reservation under the other backward classes and backward classes, irrespective of the earlier slab of Rs.6 lakh.
