Bangladesh strike a deal with Myanmar on Rohingya repatriation; hopes to start the process within 2 months

Nya Pyi Taw, November 24: After two days of talk Myanmar and Bangladesh have signed a long waited accord on Rohingya repartition. The countries hope the process will start within next two months. The deal came following a meeting between Bangladeshi Foreign Minister AH Mahmood Ali and Myanmar’s State Counsellor Aung San Suu Kyi.
After a violent upsurge in August thousands of Rohingyas fled to Bangladesh and recently live in refugee camps of cox bazar. As per UN data, 620,000 Rohingya fled to the neighboring country to seek shelter. Foreign Ministers from several countries visited those camps and pledged more help for Bangladesh. Though international community put a high pressure on Myanmar, "Issues that emerge between neighboring countries must be resolved amicably through bilateral negotiations," Suu Kyi's office said.
Though both the countries have said to be signed the deal but till now keynotes of the deal details are not available anywhere. But the countries termed t5his deal as the first step and said will continue hard work for next two steps. The Bangladesh government statement says a 'joint working group' will be formed in three weeks. An official of Myanmar said they are ready to take them back as soon as possible after Bangladesh sends the forms back to them.
The UN refugee agency hoped any agreement would "respect the right of refugees to return to Myanmar in a safe, voluntary, dignified and sustainable way". Though the deal was reached still the original agreement may take time. As per an official statement, 'an agreement was reached on the Arrangement'. Whereas Myanmar is saying the deal is based on the 1992 Joint Statement with Bangladesh, Dhaka says with the change in time and context, the statement has lost its significance.
