New Delhi, November 24: If we take the example of Fortis Gurugram case, we will remember how many other similar cases happen every day. Corporate hospital chains sometimes really exploit patients and their families by overcharging. Hence Central government has urged all states to curb this menace by implementing Clinical Establishment Act. Union Health Secretary Preeti Sudan has written a letter to all state chief secretaries in this regard.

The move comes after a family recently highly suffered from this problem recently. Fortis Hospital Gurugam charged RS 18 lakhs for a dengue patient who was admitted for 15 days only. Moreover, the child did not survive. A bill showed a total of 378 syringes were used and 900 unsterile gloves until 6th September but when they questioned the amount came down to half.

Hence to prevent such unfortunate incidents in the name of treatment Preeti Sudan said there is a need to ensure that such things do not occur and quality healthcare be provided at a fair and affordable price. These bad examples shake the core of faith of common mass on the healthcare system.

To regulate the hospitals properly she asked the states to implement Clinical Establishment (Registration and Regulation) Act, 2010. Till now only 4 states have adopted the act. He also suggested a meeting involving even the private hospitals to clearly send out the message that such malpractices would not be tolerated and would be responded with strict action.
