2016 records the whopping 3,969 number of women molestation cases

New Delhi, November 24: 1 out of every 14 people have faced crime, said report "Status of Crime and Policing in Delhi". A report revealed that national capital has recorded a whopping 3,969 number of women molestation cases in the year 2016.

 

Milind Mhaske, Project Director Praja Foundation, said, "One can clearly draw an observation between the feeling of safety and security of women and children to the registration of cases, as out of the total 2,181 of rape cases being registered in 2016, 44.80 per cent are registered under Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act in 2016".

The posh south district reported the maximum number of incidents of women molestation in the national capital a year ago, according to a white paper released by an NGO.

The foundation revealed that the number of complaints received in 2015 against the police was 12,913 of which 346 were declared falseI in a surprising revelation, despite over 12,000 complaints received against the Delhi Police officers in 2015, of which 346 were declared false, only 145 criminal cases were registered, according to the data released by Praja Foundation on Thursday.

As per the findings of the report, crime against women in Delhi has been consistently high, with 2,181 cases of rape and 3,969 cases of molestation reported in 2016.

In 2015, 485 cases of molestation were reported in the south district. The second most preferred medium of informing the police by respondents, who have witnessed crime, was calling on the local telephone number of the police station, which was 17 per cent. In 2016, out of total cases 75 per cent were cases of women abduction. Similarly, in 2016, 60 per cent of the kidnapping cases were of women.

The findings of the report are based on the data procured by Praja Foundation under the Right to Information (RTI) Act, 2005.
