Onion MEP set at USD 850 per tonne to prevent cheap export

New Delhi, November 24: The Minimum Export Price (MEP) of onion is set at 850 dollars per ton to certify its obtainability in the domestic market stated the Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) on Thursday. From the last two years the prices of the vegetables have increasing continuously, so the Food Ministry took the decision about the export price.

 

The Food and Consumer Affairs Minister Ram Vilas Paswan tweeted about the MEP stating that the Government has notified Minimum Export Price (MEP) of onion at USD 850/MT to ensure domestic availability of onion and to discourage cheap export from the country.

To buy 12 thousand tonnes of onion the Ministry authorized National Agricultural Cooperative Marketing Federation (NAFED) and Small Farmers Agribusiness Consortium (SFAC) on Thursday. And to enlarge the onions availability in the market the permission has been given to the Metals and Minerals Trading Corporation of India (MMTC) to import two thousand tonnes of onion.
