Kabul, November 18: At least 17 people were killed and 28 others were severely wounded in a suicide attack in Iraq's capital Baghdad. As per local media reports, 5 suicide bombers targeted a market and shops located in Nahrawan area.

Two attackers shot several civilians on Monday in the Nahrawan area southeast of Baghdad before one blew himself up and the other was killed by security forces, the Iraqi Interior Ministry said, without providing official casualty figures.

Islamic State claimed responsibility for the attack, described by an interior ministry spokesman as “a terrorist attack by two terrorist suicide attackers who fired indiscriminately on citizens in the Nahrawan area”.

The incident takes place amid ongoing operations by the Afghan security forces to eliminate the terror groups posing threats to the province and the neighboring Kabul.

A key commander of the Taliban group was among at least eight militants killed during the operations of the Afghan security forces in this province nearly ten days ago.

The provincial government media office in a statement said the militants were killed in an area located between Baraki Barak and Tangi Wardak area.

The statement further added that the Taliban commander killed during the operation has been identified as Agha Gul.
