New Delhi, November 28: Greece on Monday urged United Nations to bring major reforms and also supported India's bid for permanent membership in the Security Council claiming that New Delhi cannot be kept out of one of the most important world bodies.

Notably, Foreign Affairs Minister of Greece Nikos Kotzias while speaking at "Greece as a pillar of stability in Southeastern Europe and the Eastern Mediterranean", an event organized by the Observer Foundation Research and the Embassy of Greece in New Delhi said that his country fully supports India for the membership of the UNSC as a new balance of power is emerging in the world.

Nikos Kotzias also asserted that New Delhi cannot be kept out of one of the most important world bodies for too long. He said, “India is the second most populous nation. In 10-20 years, or even before, it will be the most populous state. You cannot keep such a nation-state outside the Security Council.”

The Minister of Greece also noted that the old powers are declining slowly and steadily while a new balance of power is emerging with countries such as India and China. The minister, in the end, said that Greece and India could play a specific role in stabilization of the West Asia and also the eastern Mediterranean region.

Earlier, in the day, Foreign Affairs Minister of Greece Nikos Kotzias called on Indian External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj in New Delhi and held a bilateral talk on strengthening cooperation with a long-standing partner.
