To empower women in Politics, Govt will train 2 lakh lady Sarpanches across the country

New Delhi, November 28: Modi government will impart training to two lakh elected women representatives of Panchayats across the country to enhance their capability and skill in local governance and administration.

Inaugurating a capacity building programme for elected women representatives of Panchayati Raj institutions, Women and Child Development Minister Maneka Gandhi said, the master training will be given in various areas like legal matters, social development, education, health, and environment.

Gandhi said, women representatives can play a pivotal role in promoting various schemes in the development of their villagers, especially for women and children.

The training program will include simple engineering skills will give them an insight into women’s issues as well as focus on education and financial matters, Maneka Gandhi explained.

The Minister disclosed that awards will be given to the Master Trainers to those who have succeeded in empowering Elected Women Representatives (EWRs) of their areas. The Minister also appreciated the initiatives taken by some states to specify certain minimum education level for sarpanches and panchayat members.

The Capacity building of EWRs is critical to empower women to participate effectively in the governance processes. This will help them assume the leadership roles expected of them and guide their villages towards a more prosperous future. About 150 master trainers and 450 EWRs attended program.
