Moscow, November 28: While Russia has been creating excellence space science since a long time, it is a big disappointment for the country as it has lost contact with a weather satellite just a few hours after the launch. The Meteor-M was launched on Tuesday from Russia's new Vostochny cosmodrome in the country’s Far East .

Meteor-M No.2-1 polar-orbiting weather satellite was primary payload in the Soyuz-2.1b rocket lifted off from the Vostochny Cosmodrome. "The first scheduled communication session has failed to establish contact with the satellite due to its absence from the designated orbit," Russian Space Agency, Roscom’s spokesman said. Roscom is monitoring and analyzing the current situation.

The satellite was launched with 18 other small satellites. Other 18 microsatellites were built in Canada, Germany, Japan, Norway, Russia, Sweden, and the United States. The launch was at 14:41 (05:41 GMT), from Vostochny cosmodrome, the first civilian rocket launch site in Russia. Earlier Roscosmos said: 'All the initial stages of the rocket's flight went according to plan.'

This new cosmodrome was made to reduce Russia's reliance on the Soviet-era Baikonur cosmodrome in Kazakhstan. The first launch from Vostochny spaceport took place in April 2016, but it was postponed at the last minute before a successful second attempt.
