Sushma Swaraj leaves for Russia to represent India in SCO summit

 New Delhi, November 29: Just a day after Rajnath Singh concluded his Russia visit, External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj has left for her Russia visit. She will represent the Government of India at the Shanghai Cooperation Organization’s Heads of Government Summit in Sochi. On the sidelines of SCO, she will have several bilateral meetings.

India joined Shanghai Cooperation Organization as a full member in June 2017. This would be the first Heads of Government Summit of the SCO that India would be attending. Since 2005 India was an observer.

This is her second visit to Russia in 2017. Earlier, she participated in the third Eastern Economic Forum held in Vladivostok on 6-7 September 2017.Other than bilateral meetings she will also attend the Reception hosted by Dmitri Medvedev, Prime Minister of the Russia in Sochi on 30th November.

The Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) is a permanent intergovernmental international organisation, the creation of which was announced on 15 June 2001 in Shanghai (China) by the Republic of Kazakhstan, the People's Republic of China, the Kyrgyz Republic, the Russian Federation, the Republic of Tajikistan, and the Republic of Uzbekistan. It was preceded by the Shanghai Five mechanism.
