US airstrike in Somalia kills top IS commander

Mogadishu, November 29: At starting of this week, US air force conducted another airstrike in African country Somalia targeting Islamic State militants. After the strike, U.S. Africa Command published that one militant was killed. Later the country’s Information Minister has revealed the killed militant was a top ISIS Commander.

U.S. forces conducted an airstrike against ISIS, in northeastern Somalia on Nov. 27, at approximately 3 p.m. local Somalia time. The strike was conducted in coordination with Somalia government forces. A local media reported the slain commander is Abdulaziz Gure, a logistics commander. Till now the official sources have not confirmed the name. Information Minister of Somalia also told that the detailed information will be revealed later.

The United States Military has been playing an active role in some regions of Somalia to eliminate al-Shabaab militants and Pro IS militants from the country. Earlier another air-strike launched by the US killed al-Shabaab militants in last week.

The pace of such attacks has significantly increased this year after US President Donald Trump has given broader authorization to attack such groups. The strike is the 28th by the U.S. inside Somalia this year. Currently, there are approximately 500 U.S. troops in Somalia.
