Asia Cup: Indian Hockey team progressed into final by defeating Japan

Gifu, November 3: In the Semi-final of Asia cup, Indian women’s Hockey team defeated Japan by the margin of 4-2 on Friday to enter into the Final at Gifu, Japan. On Sunday, the Indian team will face Chinese team in the final. By defeating, Singapore 10-0, China 4-1 and Malaysia 2-0 in their pool and Kazakhstan by 7-1 in the quarter-final on Thursday India entered into the semi-final against Japan.

 

For India, Gurjit Kaur scored two goals on 7th, 9th minutes and Navjot Kaur in the 9th minute while Lalremsiami in the 38th minute of the match which marked India's victory against the defending champions. This is India’s fourth Asia Cup final from which India won the title in 2004 and finished runners-up in 1999 and 2009.

India has to face China in Sunday’s final who are two-time winners of the Asia Cup in 1989 and 2009. China defeated India 5-3 in 2009 final. For the 2018 World Cup in England, win for both the team is needed to qualify.
